The Empire Theatre Liverpool building was constructed in 1925. Despite facing numerous difficulties over the years, including the threat of demolition in order to create space for a car park during the late 1970s, The Empire Theatre Liverpool survived, illustrating its importance in the hearts and minds of Liverpudlians themselves and the wider Arts and culture community in Britain. Now, with a 2,381 capacity, The Empire Theatre Liverpool is one of the country's largest two-tier theatres.

Across the decades since it first opened its doors to the public, The Empire Theatre Liverpool has welcomed many of the biggest acts in entertainment to its stage; The Beatles, Judy Garland, Laurel and Hardy and Julie Andrews are just a few of those featured on The Empire Theatre schedule in the past. Of course, nowadays, The Empire Theatre Liverpool is most widely used and recognised as being an intregral addition to any major theatrical production's touring calendar.

This is thanks in no small part to a major refurbishment in 1998 which saw the venue's stage being extended by 20 feet. The increase in space translated as The Empire Theatre Liverpool now having the capability to host any touring show in the country, regardless of its size.

In addition to musicals and other big name performances, The Empire Theatre schedule includes classes and events in theatre education run by the venue's Education and Community Department for people of all ages.
